Carriacou prime harbor

Tyrell Bay

This is a short and very pleasant sail in either direction. I could happily spend a month doing nothing more than this. The wind, tamed by the little islands of Petit St. Vincent and Petite Martinique as well as by the northern end of Carriacou, is usually a gentle sailing breeze, and the sea is flattened by the reefs. Even my own dear Petronella flashes along in these conditions. Your timing on so short a journey is largely dictated by the opening hours of customs and immigration. Beware the overtime charges if you are outside office hours.

Tyrell Bay on Carriacou is one of the best anchorages in the island chain and much to be preferred to the main town of Hillsborough. You can clear in at Tyrell Bay and walk or bus to visit Hillsborough unless you want to anchor off the Hillsborough jetty.

While in this area, you may want to visit the tiny Palm Island, Petit St. Vincent, and Petite Martinique. Remember that these are not all in the same country. You may be committing the illegal technicality of not having cleared in or out of either St. Vincent or Grenada.
